When urban art meets pop culture

Kaws is an American artist and designer who paints, sculpts, and creates toys. Pop art and culture permeate his characters, such as the Disney-style Companion. Born Brian Donnelly on November 4, 1974, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Kaws worked in animation after graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Kaws began his career as a graffiti artist in the early 1990s and reworked advertisements in a distinctive style.

His work is included in the collections of the High Museum in Atlanta, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, and the Rosenblum Collection in Paris. He continues to blur the lines between fine and commercial art. KAWS lives and works in Brooklyn.
